Accessing the Subconscious Mind
Being in a trance state is one of the most effective ways to access the subconscious mind. Throughout history, shamans and meditators have shown us the value of entering a relaxed, focused mental state to connect with the higher self and other beings.
Although humans should be able to access this state on their own, hypnotic techniques significantly enhance it.
In reality, we are all in a form of trance for much of our lives. From one perspective, hypnosis allows us to step out of the trance of our habitual perceptions, assumptions, and limitations—and to align more closely with reality, or at least with a more expansive understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
We are in trance when we act out of habit, tradition, or cultural conditioning. We are in trance when we respond—consciously or unconsciously—to advertising, social expectations, or internalized beliefs. Even our self-concept and self-esteem can be understood as collections of trance states that reflect how we perceive our value and identity, ultimately shaping our personality and behavior.
At the other end of the spectrum, shamans and healers throughout history—and across many Indigenous cultures—have intentionally induced trance states to deepen spiritual connection, access wisdom, and facilitate healing. These altered states were not regarded as escapes from reality but as pathways to greater awareness and understanding.
Trance itself is typically a pleasant and natural experience. As human beings, we are drawn to altered and transpersonal states of awareness. Unfortunately, many people seek these states through unhealthy or self-destructive means—such as drugs, alcohol, or compulsive behaviors—which tend to mask underlying issues rather than illuminate or resolve them. In its highest and most conscious application, trance becomes a vehicle for healing, clarity, alignment, personal growth, and the intentional manifestation of goals.
Throughout this course, you have learned and practiced a variety of techniques for skillful engagement with trance states. These techniques are more than tools; they are powerful instruments that allow you to facilitate awareness, healing, insight, and transformation—for yourself and for others—while also opening doorways to deeper spiritual understanding.
While hypnotherapists do not diagnose, analyze, or prescribe unless appropriately licensed, we do provide a professional and ethical space in which clients can explore their inner worlds, release limiting patterns, resolve trauma, and grow into healthier and more empowered ways of being.
By the end of this course, you will have a strong foundation of techniques to support clients in accessing the deeper realms of the subconscious mind—addressing childhood and past-life experiences, resolving dysfunctional patterns and relationships, and removing barriers to happiness, health, and well-being.
This work offers a rare and meaningful opportunity: profound personal growth paired with the development of a powerful and valuable professional skill set—one that can truly change lives.
